Sedona Drum and Healing Circle
Code of Ethics:
A shared rhythm, a shared responsibility.
We drum not just for sound, but for healing, presence, and connection. These guidelines help us create a space where rhythm supports regulation, community, and creative expression—honoring both science and spirit. Drumming together affects our nervous systems, our hearts, and our minds. It’s not just music—it’s medicine.
Grounded in principles from somatic awareness, trauma-informed practice, and polyvagal theory, our circle is designed to invite safety, co-regulation, joy, and a deeper return to the self through rhythm. These simple agreements keep the experience nourishing, creative, and open to all.
Our Unspoken Guiding Attitudes:
1. We Listen Deeply.
We begin with presence—listening to the rhythm, to ourselves, and to each other. Listening creates a shared field of connection and respect, the foundation of co-regulation.
2. We Start with a Pulse.
Every jam starts with a steady beat. This simple rhythm helps entrain our nervous systems, regulate breath and focus, and provides a foundation for creativity to emerge naturally.
3. We Value Silence and Stillness.
Rest is part of rhythm. Pauses are sacred. Letting the music breathe helps us settle into presence and allows softer instruments to be heard and felt.
4. We Make Space for All Sounds.
When sound healing instruments—like flutes, bowls, bells, or didgeridoos—join the circle, we rest our drums and honor their voice. This promotes parasympathetic regulation and invites the nervous system into a state of calm receptivity.
5. We Welcome Everyone.
All levels, all ages, all backgrounds. You don’t need to be an expert—just open to listening, sharing, and being in the moment. Your presence is the gift.
6. We Practice Nonjudgment.
This is a space for freedom, not perfection. There’s no wrong beat here—only exploration, expression, and the joy of being part of something greater.
7. We Co-Regulate, Not Compete.
We attune to each other with rhythm, eye contact, body language, and breath. Drumming together teaches us empathy, patience, and embodied connection.
8. We Respect the Space and Each Other.
We help keep the circle clean, emotionally safe, and energetically grounded. This is a sanctuary for play, transformation, and community.
9. We Honor the Creative Process.
Drumming taps into brainwave states linked to insight, relaxation, and flow. We stay curious, allow mistakes, and let rhythms evolve rather than forcing outcomes.
10. We Allow the Beat to Bring Us Back.
If we get lost or overwhelmed, we return to the pulse. The rhythm is always there to center us, ground us, and carry us home.
Why We Drum This Way:
We drum this way because rhythm heals. Because joy regulates. Because collective improvisation teaches us how to be in the moment and to be human together—messy, vibrant, and whole.
By drumming in this way, we activate the vagus nerve, regulate stress responses, build trust, re-pattern trauma, and awaken the creative intelligence inside each of us. The circle becomes a reflection of nature’s harmony—diverse, interconnected, and always in motion.

Gratitude to Paul and all the core drummers who make the Sedona Drum Circle so special. Last night at Huckaby Trail was filled with beautiful, shared moments. I’m humbled by the skill, heart, and generosity of those I meet in the circle. No matter your level — whether you’re just learning the basics of timing like me — you’ll find support, encouragement, and positive reinforcement here.
In January, I bought a beautiful buffalo drum in Sedona from Walking Crow. She has helped me heal in profound ways, and I’m overjoyed to share that medicine with others. I’m also discovering the fun and challenge of playing djembe — not just in learning the rhythms, but in learning to laugh at myself, let go of perfectionism, and embrace the joy of the moment.
I first came to the drum circle to learn drumming and to move through fear — to express my divine feminine in all her forms: dark and light, wild and tender. This circle is a true safe space for expression. It’s deeply improvisational, allowing creative flow while holding a steady, shared rhythm.
I’ve loved drumming and dancing freely, without worrying who’s watching — just being playful and present. Whenever I’m in Sedona, I’ll make it a priority to join. The healing I’ve found here has been incredible. 🙏🏼
The videos I’m sharing are from last month at Posse Grounds Pavilion. I’ll never forget that first time Kim and I came — the drums beating, lightning flashing all around us. Pure medicine, good people, and beautiful energy flowing through the group.
